Brian Grazer Replaces Brett Ratner as Oscar Producer

A real friendship: Brian Grazer replaces Brett Ratner as Oscar producer.

Oscar winner Brian Grazer will replace director Brett Ratner as producer for the 84th Academy Awards, ABC announced yesterday (09.11.11). It will be the first time the producer, who won the best picture award in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind, has produced the Oscar’s, scheduled for February 26. Brian Grazer will co-produce the prestigious prize-giving event along with Don Mischer.

“It’s very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career.”-he said in a statement.

Oscar hots Eddie Murphy also announced yesterday that he was withdrawing from the show in the wake of Brett Ratner’s departure as producer the previous day.Ratner, 42, stepped down from his supposed “dream job” producing the Oscar’s after the filmmaker made a string of comments that sparked a public firestorm.

Brian Grazer, 60, won an Oscar for Best Picture in 2001 for his works in A Beautiful Mind, which stars Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. His latest projects include Tower Heist, in which Brett Ratner is directing, and yet to be released J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 84th annual Academy Awards will be presented at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. The Oscar ceremony will be live televised in more than 200 countries worldwide.
